Jo is an experienced therapist based in Bath who provides a unique approach to rehabilitation and healing using light touch therapies, individualised exercises, mindful movement and walking therapy.
Rehabilitation
Our bodies are incredible and never cease to amaze, with the ability to compensate, heal and adapt.
Illness, injuries and hospital admissions can often leave you in pain, feeling fatigued, restricted and helpless.
One of the best ways to gain confidence and fitness is rehabilitation; building on what you can do and being active again.
This does not necessarily mean having to join a gym or go running everyday but it is about understanding your body and finding a form of exercise or movement that can get you back on your feet and doing what you want/need to do.
I specialise in treating 'long term conditons' and chronic pain and can see people either at my own treatment room or via online consultations. Local home visits may also be possible.
Craniosacral Therapy and Theraeutic massage are both gentle "hands-on" therapies that use touch and listening to connect with the tissues and the intuitive part of the body that allows change and healing.
CranioSacral Therapy: By listening to your craniosacral rhythm at various parts of the body a trained therapist can evaluate and treat areas of restriction. These could be bony, soft tissue, fluid, emotional or energetic restrictions that have built up over time that are now causing pain, stiffness, headaches, discomfort, anxiety or depression. Once our bodies let go of these restrictions it is possible to reduce or abolish symptoms as well as gaining self-awareness and healing.
Therapeutic Massage: Following a detailed assessment, specific areas of tension are located and gentle but firm massage techniques are applied to increase circulation and allow the muscles and soft tiisues to unwind and relax.
Being able to relax and 'let go' of stress is really important but not always easy to do. We are all different and not one technique fits all. Come and experience what type of relaxation is right for you.
Meditation
Take relaxation one step further and explore how meditation can be used to calm the mind & body and, connect with your soul/inner knowing. Meditation can help release pain & stress and allow us to find our purpose & true potential.
Mindful Movement
Quiet the mind and the soul will speak
Mindful Movement is offered as either an online class or as individual sessions. It is about giving yourself time to listen to your body as you move/exercise in a gentle but effective way.
Mindful movement provides the opportunity to use and try exercise disciplines such as Qi Gong, Tai Chi , Yoga and Pilates to find out what movements your body likes, what areas need more attention and what you need to focus on to improve your health such as core strength, flexibility or balance. It is also very grounding and can be used as a form of meditation to quieten the mind and allow deeper body connection.
Mindful movement is not about following strict regimes and poses but more about learning how to modify exercises to suit you.
Walking is one of the best forms of exercise as it not only improves our physical fitness but also our mental and spiritual well being. Nothing beats a walk in nature to get your body moving, ease tension and re-focus the mind. My passion for walking has led me to develop the following options: Walk With Me Groups: free walks of varying lengths, giving opportunity for small groups to walk togther and appreciate nature. Individual Walking Programmes: for people who have a specific injury, have been housebound or need to increase their confidence walking outdoors.
